FIREFIGHTERS have urged people to exercise caution when doing their laundry—after a washing machine went up in flames.
A family fled their home on Green Lane, Rawmarsh, when the daily cycle was consumed by smoke and flames shortly after 6pm on Sunday evening.
Fire crews arrived to see plumes of smoke coming from the property’s open windows but found the incident had caused little damage.

Hide AdOne firefighter said: “We were able to get the smoke out of the property and there was no real damage. The incident had left the family quite shaken though.
“This sort of incident is the reason why we ask people not to leave their appliances on when they go out.
“If this family had not been there to take action and call us, it could have been a lot more serious.”
