Walk men Moaks and Worzle's support from X-Factor voice: AUDIO

TWO colleagues will trek the width of the country to raise cash for expanding Rotherham Hospice.

Mark Oakley and Steve Worsley saw a TV show which inspired them to take on the 192-mile walk across the dales and moors of northern England.

And the pair - who met in 2007 and work at ASD Lighting - picked the company's nominated charity as the one to benefit from their mammoth coast-to-coast trek.

Special projects engineer Mark (31) said: "We saw Julia Bradbury's show on BBC early last year and thought it would be quite nice to do it.

"The Rotherham Hospice has been ASD's nominated charity for a few years now.

"We thought this would be a good way to raise a bit of money for them and complete the walk as well.

"It's a fairly flexible route," added Mark, of Kimberworth.

"We've booked our accommodation for each night in bed and breakfasts, but there's various ways we can go between them.

"We'll be able to decide the exact route depending on how the weather is, or what sort of day we want when we set off each morning.

"If we decide to see the higher peaks, then that makes the days longer."

The planned ten to 14-day fund-raiser had to be postponed for the birth of former Navy man Mark's first child Ayla in July.

He has been stepping up the training for the walk in May, but said that the cost of preparing was higher than they had expected.

"We've had to get all kinds of equipment, such as the right type of walking poles and flasks," he added.

"There will be quite a bit to carry, but it's all for a great cause."

Mark and regional accounts manager Steve (26) have worked together at the Rotherham company for three years.

Steve, from Bolton-on-Dearne, said: "ASD have supplied lighting for the hospice's new extension.

"The hospice will need an extra £600,000 per year to support this, so we hope our sponsored walk can help make a dent in this sum."
