Virgin head to Russia

VIRGIN will this weekend take what could be a massive stride towards developing their support base in Russia.

Following the link-up with Nikolay Fomenko’s Marussia operation, the team\_now racing under a Russian licence and flag\_is hoping to forge new links, starting with a speed festival in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Drivers Timo Glock and Jérôme D’Ambrosio will provide the Russian fans with the breath-taking experience of seeing a Formula One car at close quarters on a temporary circuit.

And it’s the first steps towards the team’s aim of a first podium finish when the inaugural Russian Grand Prix takes place in the city in 2014.

Timo and Jérôme will take part in a busy programme of promotional activities which, in keeping with the team’s fan-friendly personality, will be key to connecting Formula One with the sport’s burgeoning Russian following.

Said John Booth: “This is our first trip to Russia as a team and we are very excited about it."
