VIDEO: Hunt for driver in bizarre smash caught on camera

A BAFFLED business owner has offered a reward for information to catch the driver who bizarrely drove into the wall of his Rotherham premises.

Jamie Cassidy, who runs The Elevator Company in Parkgate, was amazed when he watched CCTV footage showing the car driving squarely into the brick wall — causing £8,000 of damage.

Now he has asked Advertiser readers to help him track down the errant driver and his passenger filmed climbing out and apparently discussing the accident, before driving away.

“It’s quite comical to watch but there’s nothing funny about the repair bill,” said Mr Cassidy, who is offering a reward for information.

The incident happened at about 12.55pm on bank holiday Monday last week when the company’s premises off Manngham Road were closed.

“We’re looking at about £8,000 to repair it,” Mr Cassidy said.

“We’re hoping the public will help us find the driver because unfortunately on the CCTV you can’t make out the number plate, but it looks like a Ford C-Max or similar.”

A police spokeswoman confirmed that they were investigating the incident.

“It is reported that a car collided with a wall at the front of the building, causing significant damage,” she added.

“Officers are continuing to investigate the matter and would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious at around that time.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 316 of  May 4.
