Unwanted technology could prove good ‘bus-iness’ for charity

A ROTHERHAM bus depot’s recycling scheme will see unwanted mobile phones and tablets turned into charity donations.

Stagecoach Yorkshire is linking up with CMR Recycling to ensure all unclaimed mobile devices, such as phones, iPads and laptops, left on its buses are turned into cash for local good causes.

Devices that remain unclaimed for more than three months will be wiped of all data by CMR Recycling, who then recycle or send them for secure disposal.

The recycling firm will then make a donation to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice for each device sent to them by Stagecoach's Rawmarsh depot.

John Young, Stagecoach Yorkshire commercial director, said: “We are always looking at new ways to help make our operations as environmentally-friendly as possible and this partnership with CMR Recycling will help us to support a very worthy local cause, too — a win-win situation.”
