Unwanted specs donated to help Vision AId Overseas

A FIRM of opticians has collected hundreds of pairs of unwanted spectacles to donate to an overseas charity.

Customers handed over their old glasses to Martyn Kemp Opticians in return for a reduction in the price of a new pair.

The scheme, run by South Yorkshire’s largest firm of independent opticians—which has a branch in Rawmarsh—helps Vision Aid Overseas, a charity dedicated to helping people in the developing world whose lives are blighted by poor eyesight, particularly where spectacles can help.

Since 1985, Vision Aid Overseas has provided 600,000 eye tests and given 300,000 people the ability to see with a pair of spectacles.
