Undercover HGV on prowl to catch lethal lorries

SOUTH Yorkshire traffic police have hired an HGV to identify truck drivers putting themselves and others at risk.

They will patrol motorways in the region over the next two weeks in a vehicle loaned by Mercedes.

Pc Darrell McPherson said: “It gives us a different viewpoint from which to try to detect offences.

Chf Insp Stuart Walne, head of roads policing, added: “Any vehicle that is not being driven correctly can be a lethal weapon, especially large vehicles being driven at speed.”
