Ulley windfarm: have your say

AROUND fifty residents attended a public meeting last night to discuss proposals for six giant wind turbines on the outskirts of picturesque Ulley.

There are just two months to go before councillors make a final decision on Banks Developments’ planning application to place six 320-meter high turbines on land at Penny Hill Lane.

Interested parties now have until April 19 to make their voices heard and the meeting was held at Holy Trinity Church in Ulley to discuss the way forward.

Ulley Wind Farm Action Group has been up and running since 2008 when the proposals–which also include a mast, access roads, a control building, a sub-station and a temporary compound–first came to light.

Campaigners fear that the wind turbines will have a negative effect on the environment and cause a distraction for people travelling on the nearby M1 and M18 motorways.

A petition featuring 1,800 signatures and more than 350 letters of objection have already been presented to Rotherham Borough Council.

The planning board meeting will take place on May 26.
