Two Rotherham car parks axed

TWO under-used car parks will be closed, saving Rotherham Borough Council more than £5,000 a year.

And the council will cash in on the land after shutting the 104-space Fitzwilliam Road and 44-space Greasbrough Road, Parkgate, car parks.

Parking services manager Martin Beard said that Fitzwilliam Road, on Cottenham Road East, was virtually never used and appeared too far away for town centre commuters and shoppers to walk.

He added: “The Greasbrough Road car park is very rarely used and requires maintenance work to cut back the trees around the boundary.

“It has also been reported to Streetpride that the car park is a regular location of drug abuse. It is considered that this car park is also surplus to operational requirements.”
