Two arrested in Wickersley kidnap and attempted Stag bank raid investigation

DETECTIVES investigating a kidnap and attempted robbery of a bank by a fake police officer and a gang of masked men have made two arrests.

Det Insp Mark Monteiro said officers had arrested a man and a woman in the Greater Manchester area on suspicion of kidnap and attempted robbery this morning (Thursday).

The duo remain in custody and will be quizzed in connection with the kidnap of a woman and her young child in Wickersley and an attempted raid at Barclays Bank branch at Stag roundabout on Tuesday morning.

Det Insp Monteiro said: “South Yorkshire Police have been conducting round-the-clock enquiries to identify those responsible and we are currently in the process of carrying out a number of enquiries in the Greater Manchester area.

“I can confirm that two individuals have been arrested and we are conducting further enquiries to locate outstanding individuals.

"This is a fast moving investigation and we remain in the early stages of our inquiry.

“We’re grateful for the support from the public and to those that have contacted police with information about this matter.

“Anyone who is yet to come forward who believes they may hold information that could help us, please get in touch.”
