TV success paved the way for Evans' appointment

TELEVISION played a part in helping put Steve Evans in the frame for the job.

Last seasons' remarkable run to the fifth round of the FA Cup, going out narrowly to Manchester United at Old Trafford, was replicated this season as they eventually dipped to another top flight side in Stoke City.

The run propelled the little Sussex club into the TV spotlight and Millers chairman Tony Stewart was watching and took note

He said: "Thanks to Sky, Crawley were never off the box last season and part of this.

"I watched them and liked their drive and belief. I witnessed all that and thought they were exciting to watch. When we looked at the names that came in, we drew up a shortlist and spoke to Crawley. We interviewed Steve and he didn't let us down."
