TV spot for business-savvy pupils

YOUNGSTERS from Herringthorpe Infants School have been showing off their entrepreneurial skills on national television.

Year 2 pupils were asked to develop attractive and durable packing so the younger children could sell the eggs laid by the school’s chickens.

BBC cameras filmed the children making their packages and testing their durability.

The school works with ‘Are You Ready’, a programme which trains teachers to develop enterprise and entrepreneurship to enhance pupil’s learning.

Head teacher Lynne Pepper said: “Developing enterprise has helped us create a learning environment where children have the opportunity to take risks and make mistakes, and learn from both.

“Part of this approach is about stepping back and letting children take the lead and develop their confidence and resilience from being independent and bouncing back from failure.”
