Turner Prize-winner's Sheffield show

GRAYSON Perry is as famous for wearing dresses as he is for his Turner Prize-winning art or Bafta-winning TV presentation — perhaps even more so.

The cross-dressing potter, textile artist and dressmaker lives a sort of double life.

While Grayson has a real wife and daughter, alter-ego Claire is wed to his childhood teddy Alan Measles.

Through sculptures and self-portraits often featuring Claire, Perry has long been exploring just who he is.

So can the artist still call himself masculine? What is masculinity and what can it become?

These are themes explored in touring stage show Grayson Perry: Typical Man in a Dress.

Accompanying his new book The Descent of Man — and pre-empting his Channel 4 series All Man — it will treat audiences to “an intelligent evening of laughs, discussion, insight and costume changes”.

The show reaches Sheffield’s City Hall on Thursday, November 10.
