Triple death crash survivor still 'critical'

A 16-year-old girl who survived a head-on horror smash which killed her three teenage friends remains in a stable but critical condition.

Chloe Newby, of Mexborough, was a back seat passenger in the Vauxhall Corsa which collided with a Volkswagen Golf when an overtaking manoeuvre went wrong on Adwick Road, near Mexborough, on December 27.

The driver of the Corsa Robert Ryan Tepper (17), of Conisbrough, front seat passenger Jonathan Scott (17), of Mexborough, and 16-year-old Lauren Birkett, of Mexborough, all died in the accident.

The driver of the Golf, a 56-year-old man, survived but suffered fractures.

Chief Inspector Stuart Walne, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said:

“Chloe remains in a critical but stable condition but she is a young girl and well equipped to come through this. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed for her to make improvements every day.”
