Tree down as town is battered by high winds

A TREE crashed down into a wall near a school as Rotherham was hit by high winds today.

Reader Katie Walker snapped this photo of the tree trunk lying across the low wall outside Maltby Academy at about 9am.

The Met Office issued a yellow ‘be aware’ weather warning for last night, with gusts of up to 60mph possible over higher ground and plenty of rain predicted.

But the forecast for the rest of the week is calmer, although the clouds are expected to continue until after the weekend.
