Launching the latest Operation Duxford day of action today (Mar 22), Chief Insp Gwyn Thomas said the initiatives to be carried out across Doncaster would show people the police get results.

South Yorkshire Police teamed up with staff from Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes, the RSPCA, the Fire Service, Environment Agency and the Immigration service, among others, to carry out activities such as warrants, speed enforcement, burglary patrols, horse seizures, as well as meeting the public and giving advice.

Mr Thomas told his officers: “I want you to do enough that we maximise every opportunity to engage with the public.

“The tide in Doncaster is turning.”

Assistant Chief Constable for local policing, David Hartley, said that Operation Duxford had coincided with South Yorkshire Police being told by inspectors that it had improved to Good status.

He said he wanted the day's activities to boost the image of county policing amongst the public.

Mr Hartley said: “There is some really important work to do. It’s going to be a big day and we are here to do a good job.

“We are heading towards being an outstanding force.”
