Vikaas Imran Mahmood (31), of Town Street, Tinsley, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Doncaster Crown Court on Monday.

Mahmood was also disqualified from driving for nine years and will have to take an extended re-test before he gets back behind the wheel.

At around 1.40am on Friday, June 19, 2015, Mahmood was driving along Bawtry Road, Tinsley, and being followed by a red Seat Leon.

The Seat collided with a tree and its 22-year-old driver, Aamir Hussain, died at the scene.

A passenger, also a 22-year-old man, also suffered serious injuries.

Sgt Donna Roden, from the serious collisions unit said: “Mahmood continued to deny responsibility for his reckless actions that night, which led to the loss of one life and serious injury to another.

“He has been found guilty by a jury and is now behind bars for his crimes.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died, as no sentence can ever truly comfort them after their loss.”
