Three arrested in crackdown on illegal workers

IMMIGRATION officers arrested three people on Monday after swooping on two car washes and an off-licence in Rotherham.

Specially-trained officers questioned staff at Ten to Ten store and Wash Works on Fitzwilliam Road, and Network Hand Car Wash on Wellgate, about their right to work in the UK.

Two Iraqis and an Afghan were arrested for a variety of immigration offences. All three face deportation.

The owners of the businesses were warned that they could now be fined up to £50,000 for employing the five men—£10,000 per illegal worker—unless they can prove they carried out right-to-work checks on their employees.
