Shea Heeley (19), who is serving a life sentence in HMP Manchester, was due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court yesterday (3) charged with two theft offences and burglary.

But the CPS discontinued the case because it said it was no longer in the public interest to prosecute him.

Heeley, formerly of Doe Quarry Lane, Dinnington, was accused of stealing a Vauxhall Transporter and its keys from the owner and taking alloy wheels worth £200 from Thurcroft Auto Centre in December, 2016.

The case was listed to be heard on Tuesday but Heeley did not appear before magistrates because the case had already been discontinued.

A CPS spokeswoman said: “This case was discontinued as a prosecution is no longer needed in the public interest.

“The defendant recently pleaded guilty to murder at Sheffield Crown Court.

“He was sentenced on March 5 to life imprisonment with a recommendation that he serve 24 years and 6 months.

“Even if convicted of these outstanding offences, they will add nothing material to that sentence.”

Heeley stabbed 16-year-old Leonne Weeks 28 times in January last year before dumping her body behind a sofa on a pathway off Lordens Hill, Dinnington.
