The Old Dance School set for village hall gig

A SEVEN-piece folk band will be taking a break from promoting its second album and heading to a rural village hall for a one-off gig.

The Old Dance School have been marked out as one of the folk scene’s most exciting young prospects by critics since the band was formed by a group of university friends back in 2006.

Now they are preparing to play their forward-thinking brand of folk to an audience of around 70 at Letwell Village Hall on February 5.

The Old Dance School’s debut album, Based on a True Story, was praised as “an absolute gem” by Radio Two’s Bob Harris, and fellow BBC radio DJ Mark Harding commented: “It really hits the mark. There’s a genuine creative fizz to what the band do.”

One of the organisers of next Saturday’s gig, Martyn Sharpe, said: “The band come with some really good recommendations.

“I’ve been lucky enough to see them in concert already and they were fantastic. I know they'll go down a storm in Letwell.”

Tickets for the event, which opens its doors at 8pm, are £12 each and can be booked from Martyn on 01909 731626.

All profits go towards the upkeep of the village hall.
