Teenager hit by van in bid to run across motorway

Police are appealing for witnesses after the 18-year-old first ran across the southbound carriageway and onto the central reservation at around 11.40am on Monday.

When he attempted to run across the northbound carriageway the man, from Barnsley, was struck by a van. He is now being treated in hospital.

The M1 was closed in both directions for around two hours after the collision.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 359 of 14/01/2013.
