Teenager cut from wreckage after crash with police car

A TEENAGER had to be cut free after his car was in collision with a police car.

A shopfront was also damaged in the incident, which happened on Fitzwilliam Road at the junction of Cottenham Road just before midnight on Saturday.

The 19-year-old man, who was driving a Vauxhall Astra, was taken to Rotherham General Hospital.

The police officer in the other car suffered minor injuries and also needed hospital treatment.

The road re-opened and both vehicles were recovered at around 2am on Sunday.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as a matter of routine.
