A police spokesman said: “It is believed that a red Ford Fiesta, driven by a 19-year-old Rotherham man, has been travelling towards Thrybergh on Hollings Lane when it has crossed the central white lane as it travelled around a right-hand bend.

“It is believed the Ford Fiesta has ended up across the carriageway before a silver Citroen C8, driven by a 52-year-old Rotherham man, travelling in the opposite direction has collided with the near side of the Ford Fiesta.”

The teenage driver of the Ford hatchback was taken to Northern General Hospital with head injuries and multiple fractures.

The 52-year-old driver of the Citroen and his 58-year-old female passenger escaped the incident with minor injuries.
