Swallownest car wash plan turned down

A CAR wash plan behind a restaurant on a busy road has been turned down on appeal.

Applicant Ghaffar Khalil wanted to run the business in the car park of the Golden Pheonix on Worksop Road, Swallownest.

Rotherham Borough Council rejected the idea a year ago over traffic and drainage worries.

Now planning inspector Jean Russell has dismissed the appeal. She said: “The harm that would be caused by the car wash, particularly in relation to highway safety, but also to the character and appearance of the area, are overriding concerns.”
