The pupils, believed to be from Brinsworth Academy, were reportedly splashed with acid during a chemistry lesson.

The Advertiser understand a classroom was evacuated and the children sent to hospital as a precaution.

A Rotherham Hospital spokesman said: “We can confirm that two people presented to the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre following a suspected minor chemical incident.

“Our teams followed decontamination processes to treat the two patients and during this time the provision of services to other people in the department was not affected.”

The spokesman could not confirm whether any actual injuries had been sustained.

The Advertiser has contacted Brinsworth Academy about the claims, which have not yet been confirmed or denied.
