Stephanie's on the moo-ve

ROTHERHAM College of Arts and Technology student Stefanie Wallace has got her career “moo-ving” by winning a place at one of the country’s top veterinary schools.

Stefanie, who finishes her BTEC Level 3, Animal Management course in June, has been accepted to study at the state-of-the-art School of Veterinary Medicine and Science through the University of Nottingham.

The school which opened in 2006 has fast become a UK leader in its field and provides the skills needed for those who are looking to become veterinary surgeons.

Stefanie said: "The course at college has been fantastic and the tutors have been so supportive by giving me the confidence to go and get the career of my dreams. I will miss it here, especially all the animals I have grown attached to."

Level 3 Animal Management is a two-year course and covers a range of topics to develop the skills needed for jobs such as veterinary nursing, zoo keeping and animal rehabilitation.

The Rother Valley Campus Animal Care Centre is the home for a wide variety of different animals including cows, sheep and goats, as well as meerkats, lizards, snakes, spiders and many more exotic creatures.

The college has links with Nottingham Trent University and Liverpool Veterinary School so there are a number of progression routes to choose from.

Stefanie's tutor, Andrew Jonas said: "Stefanie is inspirational in that she has shown how a vocational course can get you into one of the country's top specialist schools, especially when they generally accept those who have studied A levels.

"She has put a huge amount of hard work in to her studies and has gained work experience with over 18 different animal-based placements, so she really deserves the best. I’m very proud of her."

Stefanie is now preparing for her six-year course to become a veterinary surgeon and says she will miss the college's animals.

Stefanie said: "Luna the cow is definitely my favourite.

“She is so gentle and loves all the attention from the students, I will miss her."
