Spate of arson attacks across borough

ARSONISTS torched a car, a derelict building and grassland over the weekend. 

A VW Golf was set on fire on Creswick Road, East Herringthorpe, at 12.45am this morning (Monday).

A crew from Maltby Fire Station attended the blaze and left the scene just after 1am.

Arsonists also struck on Sunday at 5.15am on Roger Street, Thornhill.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said household rubbish near to some allotments was set alight and a crew from Rotherham station brought the fire under control within 30 minutes.

Another deliberate fire was started in a derelict building on College Lane, Rotherham, at 8.40pm on Saturday.

Crews from Rotherham and Aston station attended and left the scene at 9.10pm.

A crew from Cudworth Station attended an arson attack on Bolton Road, Wath, at 7.15pm on Saturday after some grassland was torched.

Firefighters left the scene at 8.20pm.
