South Yorkshire's bobby dazzlers!

A ROTHERHAM police officer is in line for top honours at a glittering awards ceremony aimed at recognising and rewarding excellence in policing in the United Kingdom.               

South Yorkshire Police have been nominated in three categories for the

2009 Jane's Police Review Gala Awards to be presented on Wednesday, October 28 at the London Hilton Park Lane Hotel.

Wentworth-based PC Craig White has been nominated for the Community Police Officer of the Year Award .

Pc White, whose grandfather was a policeman, is police and young person partnership officer in Wentworth where he set up a fishing group to divert youngsters away from anti-social behaviour.

He registered the mobile phone of every young person at a local school to help trace lost and stolen phones.

A knife crime DVD he helped young people make has been rolled out as an educational tool in schools.

PC White also created allotment projects so young children not interested in school can learn about healthy heating and growing food.

Other South Yorkshire nominees include

Nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award which commends an officer in the last year of his or her service is Barnsley-based Insp Mihajlo Milinkovic, who has been nominated for a lifetime achievement award.

And Barnsley Central Safer Neighbourhood Team has been nominated for The Diversity in Action Award which covers gender, race, sexual orientation and disability and is aimed at forging closer links with all sides of the community.
