Snow clearance question cleared up

Sir, I write in response to your reader J. Hall’s letter, which was published in last week’s edition of the Advertiser, claiming that workmen from Morrison/Rotherham 2010 had cleared the driveway and path in front of a councillor’s home.

I can personally assure your readers that this was not in fact the case and that Morrison would never undertake this sort of action.

The workmen seen by your reader were in fact clearing the pavement and roadway in order to provide access to an area alongside the Councillor’s property where Morrison stores some of its equipment.

This equipment was required for housing repairs being carried out in the area and was inaccessible until the access was cleared. Residents in the area were involved in the consultation process about the best location to store this equipment and gave their consent to it being positioned in this area of Winterhill Road.

I can fully assure residents that Morrison would only ever undertake snow clearance on a purely voluntary basis to help out the community, as we did when we helped clear the snow at Rotherham United’s ground a few weeks ago, as Morrison is not responsible for clearing the paths and roads around Rotherham under normal circumstances.  Mark Waterhouse, Regional Partnering Director, Morrison.
