A CHARITY slimathon for Children In Need is being launched in Rotherham this month.

The aim of the national event is to give people wanting to lose weight the chance to be sponsored for every pound that they lose helping a worthwhile cause along the way.

Individuals can choose how long they want to take part in the event, from one month to six months, starting on February 15.

And it is hoped that people across the country will join forces to raise as much money as possible for Children In Need.

Fitness instructor and organiser Bev Davies said: “We hope that the National Slimathon is going to be fantastic, especially as we are raising money for children who need our help.

“The weight that people will want to lose will vary so we thought it better to give people options about how long they take part for.

“When they register they will be either e-mailed or posted a sponsor form plus a very effective and easy to follow diet plan.

“They will then gather up as many sponsors as they can and each will sponsor them an amount of money per pound lost in the period.

“If the first goes well, we would do a slimathon every year which will generate large amounts of money for charity plus help people to lose weight.”

People taking part will be asked to record their weight at the start and end of their challenge and will let the organisers know both statistics.

They will also be asked to take before and after photos of themselves.

Participants can either ring, text or register online.
