Six teenagers in custody after Mexborough stabbing

SIX teenagers have been arrested after a man was stabbed in Mexborough last night (Monday).

Police were called to Dryden Road just after 10.30pm following reports of an altercation between a group.

The injured 28-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remained this morning in a serious but stable condition, a police spokeswoman said.

Two men aged 18, three 17-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy have all been arrested on suspicion of wounding and remained in police custody this morning. 

A police spokeswoman said: "Six teenagers are currently in police custody following an incident in Mexborough last night in which a 28-year-old man suffered stab wounds.”

The incident is the second stabbing in the town in less than two weeks and comes after police launched a crackdown and enforced special stop and search powers to tackle crime and address community concerns. Nine people were found carrying offensive weapons during the searches.

Officers are today continuing with their enquiries and will be in the area speaking to residents.
