Six people on trial over child sex offences

A WOMAN from Rotherham has gone on trial accused of more than 41 offences including child prostitution charges.

Amanda Spencer (23) is one of six people before Sheffield Crown Court over offences said to have happened in the Sheffield area between 2004 and 2011.

Spencer is alleged to have befriended young girls before selling them for sex.

Five men — John McLachlan, Lee Unwin, Kareem Ahmed and Bashdar Hamadamin, all from Sheffield, and another man who cannot be named for legal reasons — are also on trial.

Spencer denies arranging or facilitating a child sexual offences, inciting or causing a child to become a prostitute and inciting or arranging or facilitating the prostitution of a child.

Unwin and McLachlan both deny paying for the sexual service of a child, while Ahmed, is accused of arranging or facilitating travel for the commission of a sexual offence and Hamadamin faces a charge of rape.

The trial, which is expected to take up to eight weeks, continues today.
