Shocking cost of Rotherham's compensation claim culture

A YOUNGSTER who was splashed with custard won £5,750 in damages, the Advertiser can reveal.

According to figures we obtained from Rotherham Borough Council under a Freedom of Infomation request, £57,000 has been handed out across the borough as a result of mishaps and lost property since 1006.

The highest payment, was £15,000 awarded to a pupil who was dropped as classmates tried to lift him as part of an exercise.

The paymentswere criticised by Nick Smeaton, secretary for the Campaign for Real Education,who said it was scandalous that taxpayers' money was being spent on "frivolous" claims.
