School opens new family room

A SCHOOL community has been strengthened thanks to a new £12,000 family room, offering a place for youngsters before and after lessons.

A SCHOOL community has been strengthened thanks to a new £12,000 family room offering a place for youngsters before and after lessons.

Mexborough’s Windhill Primary will host breakfast and after-school clubs in its new facility  thanks to a grant from the Government’s extended schools service.

It will help safeguard the youngsters’ welfare, and allow parents to pop in for a cup of tea and a chat.

“It’s an ideal facility to have,” said school inclusion manager Veronica Riley. “We’ll have a breakfast club from 8am, and then after-school care until 5.30pm.

“It will be used by the children and parents. It was a need in the area,and we’ve tapped into that need.”

The Hollingworth Close school topped up the £8,000 grant to fund the extension.
