Safety warning after large blaze at Wath recycling plant

FIREFIGHTERS have spent almost eight hours tackling a large blaze at a waste recycling plant in Wath.

Four crews from Dearne, Cudworth, Barnsley and Rotherham stations were still at Shaw’s Waste Recycling on Derwent Way at 9am today, having been called there at around 1.15am.

A large smoke plume has been present over the area — South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue is warning nearby residents to keep doors and windows closed.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. An investigation will take place once the fire is out, a spokesman said.
