Rotherham teenager fighting for life after smash

A 19-year-old motorist was left fighting for his life after a colliding with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction on a country road.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to the collision which happened on Hollings Lane, between Ravenfield and Thrybergh, at around 4.15pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said: “It is believed that a red Ford Fiesta, driven by a 19-year-old Rotherham man, has been travelling towards Thrybergh on Hollings Lane when it has crossed the central white lane as it travelled around a right-hand bend.

“It is believed the Ford Fiesta has ended up across the carriageway before a silver Citroen C8, driven by a 52-year-old Rotherham man, travelling in the opposite direction has collided with the near side of the Ford Fiesta.”

The teenage driver of the Ford hatchback was taken to Northern General Hospital with head injuries and multiple fractures.

The police spokesman described his injuries as 'life threatening'.

The 52-year-old driver of the Citroen and his 58-year-old female passenger escaped the incident with minor injuries.

Officers investigating are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles shortly before the collision to contact them by dialling 101, quoting incident number 679 of January, 10.
