Rotherham teacher leading pioneer free school

THE former deputy head of a Rotherham school for children with special needs has been appointed to head up Yorkshire's first free special school.

Tim Gleave joins the Lighthouse School in Leeds from Abbey School in Rotherham

The new school, which opened in Leeds yesterday, caters for 11- 19-year-olds with autism spectrum condition (ASC) and related communication disorders.

Mr Gleave has extensive teaching, management and leadership experience in a range of SEN schools, including 17 years as a teacher at the former Whiston Grange School and eight years as head of an enhanced autism resource linked to Kilnhurst Primary School.

The Lighthouse School has been set up in Leeds City centre by a group of parents in Leeds whose children have autism.
