Rotherham strongman aims to break car-carrying record

A SUPER-sized Rotherham strongman is aiming to break the one-hour car carrying world record set in the town five years ago.

Fruit and veg man Nick Ducker, whose day job sees him serving customers in Rotherham Market, is aiming to carry a Suzuki Swift more than 407 metres to set a new record on Saturday (20).

The 25-year-old, from East Dene, is urging members of the public to cheer him on when he take on the challenge at Herringthorpe Stadium, between 1pm and 2pm.

Nick has only been training as a strongman for a year, but at 6ft 8in tall and 26-stone, his friend Martin Barraclough is not betting against him.

Martin said: “I know Nick can do it. It’ll be great to get a few people along to cheer him on.”

Mark Anglesea (43), of Middlefields Drive, Whiston, broke the same world record at Herringthorpe in 2010.

The charity-minded powerhouse took up the challenge to raise funds for a new library at Whiston Primary School, which was then attended by his daughters, Morgan (10) and Drew (8).
