Rotherham says 'NO' to violent abusers

DOMESTIC violence is ALWAYS unacceptable - that's the hard-hitting message from a new "Rotherham Says No" campaign.

Councillors turned up to show their support for the campaign, which has been launched by Rotherham Women's Refuge.

The campaign was backed by members of Rotherham Borough Council’s Cabinet ahead of a march and festival that will take place in Rotherham town centre from 10am until 4pm on November 27.

The day is set to raise awareness of the hundreds of Rotherham women and children who suffer numerous forms of violence and abuse, many having to flee the town to protect their safety.

Borough council leader Roger Stone said: “Violence against women and children is never justified and it's up to everyone to stand up and say that it must stop.

“The work that the Rotherham Women's Refuge does is vital for the town and they have helped thousands of people rebuild their lives after some horrific experiences.

“I'm proud to be involved in this campaign and urge my fellow men to say 'no' alongside us."

Rotherham Women's Refuge, which offers a safe place for abused women, is self-funding and costs nearly £500,000 per year to run.

Kerry Albiston, director of the refuge, added: “Stopping violence against women and girls has to be everyone's responsibility.

“Demand for services is increasing while resources continue to reduce.

“Join us in making a difference.”
