Rotherham man denies knife murder

A MAN from Bramley has gone on trial accused of murder in connection with a street stabbing in Sheffield.

Danny Parr (20) of Broom Close, has admitted to having an offensive weapon in a public place and to stabbing Jamie Stuart (19) of Orchard Close, Ecclesfield, four times, but has denied that he meant to kill him.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how Mr Stuart left  the White Horse pub with two friends shortly after midnight on Saturday, July 23, last year.

They walked a short distance together before Stuart separated to make his way home, turning down an offer to spend the night at a friend’s flat.

He was walking alone down Holgate Avenue when Parr and his cousin Connor Jessop approached on the opposite side of the street.

Mr Peter Moulson QC, prosecuting, told how Parr crossed the road and stabbed Mr Stuart “with severe force” three times in the legs and once in the chest.

A passer-by found the wounded teenager and attempted to revive him, but he died later from his injuries in Northern General Hospital.

The trial continues.
