Rotherham is a top target for Travelodge

ROTHERHAM could be in line for a new hotel after budget chain Travelodge earmarked the borough as one of its top targets.

Announcing expansion plans which it says could create up to 420 jobs across the Yorkshire region, Travelodge said it was looking for a further 12 new hotel sites across the county.

Rotherham is on the list, as are Barnsley, Sheffield and Wakefield.

Travelodge UK property director Tony O’Brien said: “As we look to the future, the Yorkshire economy is growing at pace and with increasing visitor numbers to areas such as Rotherham there is still a shortage of good quality accommodation at a great value price.

“To meet this growing need, we are actively looking for our first hotel site in Rotherham, which is very exciting.”

Travelodge unveiled its next target locations as it opened its fifth hotel in York last weekend — its 34th in Yorkshire.

No details have yet been revealed about where the firm could attempt to locate its first Rotherham hotel.
