Rotherham groups benefit from community cash hand-outs

TEN community groups are quids-in thanks to a Lottery-funded panel.

Thurcroft Big Local is handing just over £1,500 to good causes including £300 for “sublime science” lessons and improving the pond at Thurcroft Infants School and sports and cricket equipment and £391 for cricket and sports equipment at Thurcroft Miners Welfare.

Thurcroft Church will get £75 for craft equipment and barbecue food and Thurcroft Bowling Club £104.30 for hoses and sprinklers.

This is the eighth set of grants allocated by the Thurcroft Big Local Partnership, which has now made 73 grants.

Panel member Tony Simmonds said: “Though consisting of small amounts of money, these small grants help community groups and volunteers make a big difference to Thurcroft life.”

The other beneficiaries were: Jane Oxtoby: £150 for trip to Matlock farm; Thurcroft Cycling Club: £200 for cycle clothing;

Youth Work Works: £140 for bean bags and lighting. PCC for the Parish of St Simon and St Jude Materials: £150 for crafts.
