Rotherham exhibition has the ‘art’ to beat the bullies

Paintings, drawings, poems, installations and even anti-bullying scarecrow characters — called herocrows — are on show at Rotherham’s Coterie Gallery in the Riverside Precinct, Corporation Street, until Saturday January 28.

The works are based on the Power for Good theme of last November’s Anti-Bullying Week and creations from five primary schools and a secondary school are on show.

The aim of the exhibition is to make people aware of the bullying issue in a bid to combat the problem.

Ann Foxley-Johnson, anti-bullying consultant for Rotherham with the Anti Bullying Alliance, said that each school which took part in Anti-Bullying Week had chosen ten works to display.

She said: “It’s just a flavour of what the children think about bullying.

“It’s a platform for them to express themselves.

“I think it’s a beautifully creative way to see what they think about bullying and it gives the children a kind of kudos.”

The exhibition includes “herocrows” which represent superheroes fighting against bullying.

Installations such as an alarm to be pressed if there is bullying and a pause button to stop bad situations are also featured.

The Gallery is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and on Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
