Rotherham driver dies in smash with bus

A 28-year-old motorist was killed when his car was involved in a collision with a double-decker bus.

Police are appealing for witnesses after following the incident which happened on Brightside Lane, near Meadowhall, at 9.15pm on Saturday.

A police spokesman revealed: “A black VW Golf was travelling towards Meadowhall on the A6109 Brightside Lane when it is believed to have lost control and travelled sideways towards the bridge.

“A Volvo double-decker bus travelling in the opposite direction, towards Sheffield city centre, tried to manoeuvre away from the Golf but the two vehicles collided.

“The Golf driver, a 28-year-old Rotherham man, sustained fatal injuries in the collision.”

The bus driver, a 46-year-old Barnsley man, sustained trauma injuries and was detained at the Northern General Hospital.

Anyone with information, or who witnessed the manner of driving prior to the collision, should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1107 of Saturday, January 28.
