Rotherham church leaders call for voters to snub BNP

CHURCH representatives from across the borough have urged voters not to back the BNP.

More than a dozen clergy, including Vicar of Rotherham Rev Canon David Bliss, put their names to a letter to the Advertiser.

They said: “As church representatives in Rotherham we urge all our fellow citizens to vote next Thursday. Who they vote for is a democratic choice which all must respect.

“But we would be failing in our duty if we did not urge Rotherham to reject votes for those parties which promote hate and intolerance and which seek to divide our community on basis of faith, race, ethnic background or nationality.

“Rotherham can be proud of maintaining community cohesion in difficult times.

“Let us keep up that tradition and say No to the politics of hate and intolerance.”
