Rotherham bomb scare: man arrested

POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a bomb scare at a Rotherham petrol station.

The 21-year-old from Eastwood was arrested today after the discovery of a suspicious package at the Total petrol station, off Bawtry Road, Bramley, shortly after 8am yesterday.

Army explosives experts were called in to deal with the package as police and firefighters established a safety cordon and evacuated nearby shops and homes.

After an operation lasting almost four hours it was established that the package—described as a paint tin-type container wrapped in plastic—was not a bomb.

People were allowed to return to nearby homes and businesses shortly before midday.

A police spokeswoman confirmed today that the man had been bailed pending further enquiries.
