A MAN will stand trial next year after pleading not guilty to eight historic child sexual exploitation offences.
Darren Hyett (54), of Broom Chase, Rotherham, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court last Thursday (30) after being charged as part of the National Crime Agency’s investigation into historic child abuse in Rotherham – dubbed Operation Stovewood.
Hyett denied three counts of raping a female under 16, two counts of raping a female over 16, two counts of sexual assault against a female under 16 and the trafficking of persons for sexual exploitation.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between between 2004 and 2007 against one girl.
Hyett also denied one charge of perverting the course of justice.
He has been released on bail and will stand trial at the same court on September 3, 2018.
Operation Stovewood is the NCA’s investigation into non-familial child sexual exploitation and abuse in Rotherham between 1997-2013.
A total of 28 men have been arrested since 2014 and 21 have been charged with 94 child abuse and exploitation offences.
An NCA spokeswoman said: "The investigation currently has more than 88 identified suspects and is in the process of speaking to more than 239 victims and survivors."
There are currently 36 operations ongoing as part of the investigation.
Last month, three men became the first to be convicted and sentenced to a total of 21 years and nine months.
Next year, seven NCA trials will be heard at Sheffield Crown Court featuring a total of 18 men, they are:
February 5 – Asghar Bostan (47), of East Bawtry Road, Rotherham, is accused of two counts of rape between 2002 and 2004.
March 12 – Khuram Javed (34), of Faraday Court, Clifton, has been charged with rape, sexual activity with a female under 16 and arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation on between 2008 and 2014.
March 19 - Mohammed Yasin (36) from Lilycroft Road, Bradford, and Qaiser Iqbal (35) from Bingley Road, Bradford, are charged with intentionally arranging or facilitating the travel of a female for the purposes of sexual abuse between 2004 and 2006.
April 24 – Tony Chapman (41), of Lindley Street, Eastwood, Chapman faces seven charges of rape, 12 charges of indecent assault, one of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one of affray.
