REPORT: Titans 'nilled' by Doncaster

TITANS were ‘nilled’ by neighbours Doncaster Knights to leave them with two defeats from their opening two Championship matches.

Last season’s play-off contenders turned in a clinical, professional display to win 44-0 at a damp Castle Park, running in six tries in the process.

Trailing 25-0 at half time, Andy Key’s men showed more spirit and drive in the second period but as against Nottingham the previous week, their play was plagued by basic errors and they were dominated in the forwards.

Doncaster ran in three tries in the opening 35 minutes through Alex Shaw, Michael Heaney and Andy Bulumakau.

Fly-half Simon Humberstone added a penalty and also notched the bonus point-clinching fourth try soon after the break.

By the time Rotherham’s willing backs had a chance to shine, the game was lost. Bulumakau’s second try kept the scoreboard ticking over and although replacement Jonathan Murphy nearly grabbed a consolation score when Doncaster were slow to deal with a kick-through, the hosts still had the final say when Junior Bulumakau went in at the corner and replacement Declan Cusack converted. Humberstone kicked the hosts’ other points.

It was a bruising result for the Titans at the hands of their local rivals and leaves them with plenty of matters to address before next weekend’s home date with newcomers Hartpury.
