Remember the good things in life

LIVING in a country where the government more or less ignore the disabled, people with learning difficulties, the poor, low paid or pensioners like myself it lifts your spirit if you witness kindness or receive it.

It is Monday November 2, dull and damp with a lifting fog; nothing to be over the moon about. I enter Asda at Broad Street Parkgate and purchase a small bag of potatoes, onions and mushrooms for a grand total of £2.60. Disaster, I have changed my coat and can only find £1.20, my plastic and proper cash hung up at home.

I tell the shop girl sorry I have only got £1.20, can she keep it until I go home and change coats? You will not believe this, but a voice behind me says: “I will pay the difference.” A young woman has her purse open in a flash and puts £1.50 on the counter. The shop girl gives me 10p back which I gave to my saviour.

It may have been misty outside but the sun shone bright in Asda Parkgate. Whoever you are I hope life pays you a billion times over for your kindness to me.

At 75-years-old I have seen most things but it is people like yourself that I will remember because you always remember the good things in life.
