Quick-acting guards ensure safe delivery

NEW mum Carla Thompson poses with the security guards who helped her get to a maternity ward just minutes before baby Theo was born.

Carla was driven to Rotherham Hospital by husband Andy (46) after she went into labour at their Brinsworth home.

Guards Paul Foster and Paul Smith spotted her in some discomfort outside the main entrance as Andy parker the car.

Mr Foster swiftly transported Carla to the maternity department while his colleague waited to inform her husband.

Carla (37) said: “I was having strong contractions on the journey to the hospital and as we arrived I was in a lot of pain and struggled to get out of the car.

“My husband told me to wait on the bench just outside the main entrance, however I couldn’t wait that long.”

Carla had only been in the room for 12 minutes when she delivered healthy baby boy Theo Dominic shortly at 11.40pm on July 4.

She added: “I can’t thank them enough. If it wasn’t for them I could have ended up giving birth in the car park. I can’t wait to tell Theo the story when he is older.”
